The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has extended the deadline for public comments on the proposed National Ambient Air Quality Standards for lead to Aug. 4, according to a July 17 press release.
EPA will issue final standards by Oct. 15. This new date will allow the agency time to carefully review and consider public comments.
On May 1, the agency proposed to strengthen the standards to reflect the latest scientific information about lead and human health. For more information on these proposed standards and instructions on submitting written comments, visit: http://www.epa.gov/air/lead/.
